A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE AIKEN TECHNICAL COLLEGE KNIGHTS BASKETBALL TEAM OF AIKEN COUNTY ON ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON, ON CAPTURING THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION DIVISION II REGION 10 AND DISTRICT 7 CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND ON RECEIVING AN INVITATION TO COMPETE IN THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION DIVISION II NATIONAL TOURNAMENT.

Whereas, under the leadership of Charles Welch, the Aiken Technical College Knights Basketball Team has had an outstanding 1999-2000 season, which has been punctuated by winning both the 2000 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region 10 Championship and the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II District 7 Championship; and

Whereas, these achievements have secured the Aiken Technical College Knights Basketball Team a berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois; and

Whereas, the Knights have compiled a superb record of thirty wins and one loss thus far on its march toward a national championship; and

Whereas, the following members of the basketball team have been selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All Region 10 Team: Lemaas Barfield - First Team; Tuffy Walker - First Team; Deon Mealing - Second Team; Broderick Marshall - Second Team; Kenny Dukes - Honorable Mention; Janar Quiller - Honorable Mention; and James Harris - Honorable Mention; and

Whereas, Coach Welch's superior coaching talents have earned him the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region 10 and District 7 Coach of the Year Awards; and

Whereas, by their individual and collective achievements, the Aiken Technical College Knights Basketball Team and its coaching staff have brought national attention and the national spotlight to Aiken Technical College, Aiken County, and the entire State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Aiken Technical College Knights Basketball Team and its coaching staff on winning both the 2000 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region 10 Championship, and the 2000 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II District 7 Championship, and on receiving an invitation to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Aiken Technical College Knights Basketball Team and its Head Coach, Charles Welch.
