A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING VICKEY NEXSEN BOYD OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY ON HER ELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA PRESS ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, Vickey Nexsen Boyd of Williamsburg County, publisher of The News, was elected president of the South Carolina Press Association at that group's winter meeting at Kiawah Island on February 26, 2000; and

Whereas, Ms. Boyd thus became only the third woman in history to hold the prestigious office of president of the association; and

Whereas, she was named advertising manager of The News in 1980, and has been the paper's publisher since 1983; and

Whereas, she is a graduate of Kingstree Senior High School and Williamsburg Technical College and served as the first woman president of the Kingstree Rotary Club; and

Whereas, she is an outstanding individual who has consistently over the years contributed her time, energy, and talents to her community, and we are greatly pleased to have this opportunity to accord her special recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Vickey Nexsen Boyd of Williamsburg County on her election as president of the South Carolina Press Association.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Boyd.
