CONGRATULATING UNION HIGH SCHOOL ON WINNING THE 1999 CLASS AAA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, Union High School defeated the Dillon High Wildcats 28-25 in December at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia to capture the 1999 Class AAA state football championship; and
Whereas, the Yellow Jackets of Union trailed 18-7 at halftime in the title game but rallied for three touchdowns in the second half to claim top honors in Class AAA; and
Whereas, this was Union's third state football crown in the 1990's, having won Class AAAA Division II titles in 1990 and 1995; and
Whereas, the Yellow Jackets were under the guidance of Head Coach Mike Anthony during the 1999 campaign; Coach Anthony and the team's assistant coaches provided excellent direction and coaching in leading the team to the state title; and
Whereas, the Yellow Jackets finished the season with a stellar 14-1 record, including a twelve-game winning streak; the fourteen victories tied the school record set by the 1990 Yellow Jackets; and
Whereas, the members of the Union football team exhibited tremendous talent, hard work, dedication, and unity, qualities which propelled them to the 1999 state championship; and
Whereas, we are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize these outstanding young men in this special manner. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Union High School on winning the 1999 Class AAA state football championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Union High Yellow Jackets football team and Head Coach Mike Anthony.
