JOINING THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF THE REVEREND RENA G. THOMPSON, A NATIVE OF COLUMBIA AND RESIDENT OF PHILADELPHIA, IN THE CELEBRATION OF THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF HER ORDINATION INTO THE MINISTRY AND HER FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE IN AND THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.

Whereas, the Reverend Rena G. Thompson was born in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late George Goodwin and Louisa Gunter Goodwin; and

Whereas, the Booker T. Washington High School honors graduate was mightily inspired by the good works of her parents: her father was founder and Dean of Deacons at Siloam Baptist Church in Congaree and her mother was founder of the Society for Junior and Adult Women; and

Whereas, she was baptized at the tender age of seven, and, upon moving to Pennsylvania, became an active member in the Community Baptist Church and Ebenezer Baptist Church in Philadelphia; and

Whereas, she received her degree from the Apex Beauty Culture School, but could not deny her call to the ministry three years later; and

Whereas, she graduated from Philadelphia Bible College in June of 1960; and

Whereas, she dedicated her life to her family, the late Deacon Robert Thompson, her husband; her son, the late Robert Thompson, Jr., and her adoring daughter, Shirley Thompson; and to her church; and

Whereas, her ministry has included founding the Helping Hand Club of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, serving as member of the prayer band and deaconess board, counseling troubled soldiers at Fort Dix, and orchestrating the Thanksgiving Program; and

Whereas, her evangelism grows deeper and richer as she continues to comfort the weary, counsel the lonely, and pray for the desperate. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina joins the friends and family of the Reverend Rena G. Thompson, a native of Columbia and resident of Philadelphia, in the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of her ordination into the ministry and her fifty years of service in and through Jesus Christ.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Rena G. Thompson.
