A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE EUGENE FRANCIS MCMANUS, M. D., UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER PRACTICING PEDIATRIC MEDICINE IN AIKEN COUNTY FOR THIRTY-FOUR YEARS, DURING WHICH TIME HE WAS HONORED AS BOTH PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR BY THE AIKEN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION AND VOLUNTEER PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR BY THE LOWER SAVANNAH HEALTH DISTRICT.

Whereas, Eugene Francis McManus of Aiken County was born in Charleston to Joseph Cornelius and Mary Cecilia McGrane McManus; and

Whereas, he achieved all his education in Charleston, graduating from Porter Military Academy, the College of Charleston, and the Medical College of South Carolina; and

Whereas, he served in the United States Public Health Service in New Orleans, and began his practice of pediatrics in Winfield, Kansas and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, before settling into his thirty-four year pediatric career in Aiken; and

Whereas, during that long and compassionate service, he was honored as Physician of the Year in 1989 by the Aiken County Medical Association and 1989 Volunteer Physician of the Year by the Lower Savannah Health District; and

Whereas, he had the additional honor of serving as physician to the children of Representative Roland Smith; and

Whereas, Dr. McManus is also an active parishioner of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken, and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus; and

Whereas, he and his wife Margaret are the loving parents of three children, Eugene F. McManus, Jr., of Augusta, Margaret M. McManus of Mt. Pleasant, and Catherine M. Bedenbaugh of North Augusta; and

Whereas, they are the proud and doting grandparents of Maureen, Mac, Caroline, Catherine, and Cecilia McManus and Thomas and Colleen Bedenbaugh; and

Whereas, Dr. McManus and his large and happy family anticipate many fun-filled and sun-swept days together during his well deserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of South Carolina, do hereby recognize Eugene Francis McManus, M.D., upon the occasion of his retirement after practicing pediatric medicine in Aiken County for thirty-four years, during which time he was honored as both Physician of the Year by the Aiken Medical Association and Volunteer Physician of the Year by the Lower Savannah Health District.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Eugene Francis McManus, M.D.
