A JOINT RESOLUTION RATIFYING A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA RELATING TO THE DESECRATION OF THE AMERICAN FLAG.
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), that the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission for ratification:
The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States." Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The proposed amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, relating to the desecration of the American Flag, is hereby ratified. Certified copies of this resolution shall be forwarded by the Governor to the Secretary of State of the United States, to the President of the United States Senate and to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
