COMMENDING MR. O. RICHARD COTHRAN, JR., FOR HIS SERVICE TO GOD, COUNTRY, STATE, AND FAMILY.
Whereas, Mr. O. Richard Cothran, Jr., an esteemed resident of Greenville County, served his country in World War II on behalf of all Americans; and
Whereas, Mr. Cothran served our State as a teacher in Greenville County for thirty-three years. He began his teaching career at Fork Shoals, then as the agricultural teacher at Woodmont High School, and for many years as the Vocational Education Coordinator in the district office, always emphasizing academic excellence and moral character in the young men and women of our State, thereby affecting their lives as well as the future of our nation; and
Whereas, Mr. Cothran serves on countless advisory boards, such as the Greenville Storm Water Task Force, the Foothills Resource and Conservation Development Council, and the Science Hub of Greenville; and
Whereas, Mr. Cothran served as chairman of the South Carolina Land Resources Commission and was awarded the Outstanding Commissioner of the Year in 1994; and
Whereas, Mr. Cothran has served as a commissioner of the Greenville Soil and Water Conservation District since 1985 and has served as chairman for sixteen years, giving thousands of volunteer hours in service to our State and community; and
Whereas, Mr. Cothran is a distinguished moderator and has produced an instructional video on conducting meetings using Robert's Rules of Order that is used in all forty-six conservation districts in our State; and
Whereas, Mr. Cothran is a deacon, a choir member, and Sunday School teacher at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, and by serving others through his spiritual counsel, inspirational leadership, and profound and abiding love for the Lord, he has served to strengthen countless families and develop spiritually-healthy individuals; and
Whereas, Mr. Cothran has enhanced family values through his Christian guidance and positive example as a loving and devoted husband and father. Now, therefore, pursuant to a motion by Senator David L. Thomas,
Be it resolved that the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, extend their sincere appreciation to Mr. O. Richard Cothran, Jr., for his dedication and hard work to worthwhile and important efforts in our State.
