A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE FIRM OF WILBUR SMITH ASSOCIATES FOR ITS MANY PROFESSIONAL AND CORPORATE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OVER THE COURSE OF ITS 50 YEAR HISTORY AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION ON MAY 16, 2002.

Whereas, Wilbur Smith Associates was founded in 1952 by Wilbur Smith of Columbia, South Carolina, to provide infrastructure and transportation consulting services; and

Whereas, Wilbur Smith Associates has provided professional engineering and planning services for numerous large and small projects throughout South Carolina in all 50 states and in more than 100 countries around the world; and

Whereas, the firm has established an outstanding professional reputation and has grown and diversified to become a global leader in infrastructure planning, engineering, and economics; and

Whereas, Wilbur Smith Associates through its national and international activities brings global recognition to the State of South Carolina and is proof that a worldwide firm can be successfully headquartered in Columbia; and

Whereas, Wilbur Smith Associates employs approximately 300 of its total staff of about 1,000 persons at its headquarters and at offices located in Charleston, Greenville and Myrtle Beach, contributing significantly to the economy of the State; and

Whereas, Wilbur Smith Associates and its employees demonstrate outstanding corporate citizenship within the State of South Carolina through various initiatives that enhance the life and economic development opportunities for the citizens of the State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize the firm of Wilbur Smith Associates for its many professional and corporate accomplishments over the course of its 50 year history and congratulate them on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary celebration on May 16, 2002.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Robert J. Zuelsdorf, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wilbur Smith Associates.
