A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 9-1-10, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO DEFINITIONS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA RETIREMENT SYSTEM, SO AS TO INCLUDE IN THE DEFINITION OF "EDUCATIONAL SERVICE" FOR PURPOSES OF ESTABLISHING SERVICE CREDIT PAID SERVICE AS A CLASSROOM TEACHER IN A PRIVATE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 9-1-10(10) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Section 67A, Part II, Act 387 of 2000, is further amended to read:

"(10) 'Educational service' means (a) paid service as a classroom teacher in a public, private, or sectarian school providing elementary or secondary education, kindergarten through grade twelve; or

(b) paid service as a classroom teacher in a private college or university."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
