A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-1-860 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT CERTAIN PERSONS WHO ARE ADJUDICATED GUILTY OF SPEEDING OR ARE INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE PERSON IS AT FAULT, MUST COMPLETE A DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

    "Section 56-1-860.    Notwithstanding another provision of law, a person who is at least seventeen years of age and not more than twenty-one years of age who is adjudicated guilty of speeding in excess of ten miles an hour over the posted speed limit or who is involved in a motor vehicle accident in which the person is at fault, must complete a defensive driving course."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
