A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-146-175 SO AS TO REQUIRE SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO SUBMIT A LONG-RANGE FACILITY MAINTENANCE, REPAIR, AND IMPROVEMENT PLAN TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR FUNDS UNDER THE STATE SCHOOL FACILITIES BONDS ACT AND TO UPDATE THE PLAN ANNUALLY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

    "Section 59-146-175.    To be eligible to receive funds pursuant to this chapter, a school district must first submit a long-range facility maintenance, repair, and improvement plan for all school facilities in the district, including prioritizing the facility maintenance, repair, and improvement needs of the district. This plan must be submitted to the superintendent of the Department of Education and must be updated annually by July first of each year."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
