A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF KENNETH M. PEELER OF EDGEFIELD AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth M. Peeler of Edgefield who passed away, at the age of forty-eight, Tuesday, January 23, 2001; and

Whereas, he was born and reared in Edgefield and was the devoted husband of Jean Slade Peeler and the proud and loving father of two daughters, Bailey Peeler and Sarah Peeler; he was the beloved son of Maxie Bailey Peeler and the brother of Kathy Benefield both of Edgefield; and

Whereas, Mr. Peeler was the longest serving Edgefield Town Council member, having served continuously since June of 1980; and

Whereas, Mr. Peeler was held in high regard and greatly admired by his colleagues on town council where he was well known for being "meticulous in his thinking" and for always "having done his homework on the issues"; and

Whereas, his public service while on town council also included serving as a member of the Public Works and Recreation Commission; and

Whereas, in addition to having represented very well the interests of the residents in Ward Three, Mr. Peeler also served the Town of Edgefield when he became mayor pro-tem in December of 1987; and

Whereas, Kenneth Peeler was a dedicated, hard working salesman for Yonce Ford Motor Company, a great asset to the company, and true friend to his fellow workers; and

Whereas, Mr. Peeler was a loyal member of the Masons and a faithful member of Edgefield First Baptist Church; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper that the members of the South Carolina Senate pause in their deliberations to honor the memory of one of South Carolina's outstanding native sons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That, by this resolution, the members of the South Carolina Senate express their profound sorrow upon the death of Kenneth M. Peeler of Edgefield and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Jean Slade Peeler.
