TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE MRS. ALICE LOGAN BROWN ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDRED FIFTH BIRTHDAY.
Whereas, Mrs. Alice Logan Brown was born on April 2, 1896, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, to Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Logan; and
Whereas, Mrs. Brown was a diligent student of Mather Boarding School and graduated from White Hall School; and
Whereas, she married Reverend Henry Douglas Brown in January 1915 and supported him throughout his ministries in Smoakes, Lincolnville, Holly Hill, Charleston, and Hardeeville; and
Whereas, Mrs. Brown is the devoted mother of eight children: Emma Jane, Helen, Euralee, Merelyn, Douglas, Beatrice, Moses, and Hattie; and
Whereas, she is a civic-minded and community-oriented individual, who generously opened her home in Walterboro in 1955 to area teachers for boarding; and
Whereas, Mrs. Brown, a member of St. Peter's A.M.E. Church, is regarded as the mother of the church, and has also served in the Women's Missionary Society, as a Stewardess, and has raised more money for St. Peter's A.M.E. Church than any other person; and
Whereas, this amazing lady was honored in 1994 by the South Carolina A.M.E. Church Women's Missionary Society as a fifty-year member; and
Whereas, she is a member of the National Council of Negro Women, the Pride of Walterboro Chapter 189-the Order of Eastern Star, the Walterboro Branch-NAACP, and the Senior Citizens Group-Walterboro; and
Whereas, Mrs. Brown's family is holding a special birthday dinner and church service in her honor on Sunday, April 1, 2001, in celebration of her one hundred fifth birthday. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate Mrs. Alice Logan Brown on the occasion of her one hundred fifth birthday and wish her many more happy years.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Brown.
