TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-1-460 SO AS TO REQUIRE PRINCIPALS AND TEACHERS IN PUBLIC ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS TO DISPLAY THE MOTTO OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN EACH CLASSROOM, SCHOOL AUDITORIUM, AND CAFETERIA.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-1-460. Principals and teachers in each public elementary and secondary school in this State shall display on an appropriately framed background with minimum dimensions of eleven inches by fourteen inches, the following motto of the United States of America in each classroom, school auditorium, and school cafeteria under his or her supervision: 'In God We Trust'."
SECTION 2. The provisions of Section 59-1-460 of the 1976 Code, as added by this act, apply with respect to school year 2001-2002 and thereafter.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
