A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND DEDICATION OF MAYOR HECTOR RODRIQUEZ TO THE TOWN OF BURNETTOWN IN AIKEN COUNTY AND TO WISH HIM WELL IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, Hector Rodriquez has served as the mayor of Burnettown in Aiken County since 1988. For personal reasons and because of his strong sense of love and duty to family, he is leaving his position as mayor next month; and

Whereas, when Mayor Rodriquez first assumed office thirteen years ago, Burnettown, located between Aiken and Augusta on Highway 421, the Augusta Road, was a small town of four hundred and sixty citizens. The town has grown fivefold. In the 2000 census Burnettown had over two thousand seven hundred people within its boundaries; and

Whereas, Mayor Rodriquez has presided over many improvements to the town. Additions to the municipal building have doubled its size and the police force has grown from one officer to six; and

Whereas, life for the townspeople has improved with the building of the Veterans Memorial Park. Mayor Rodriquez has been a driving force behind the growth of the annual Sassafras Festival. This fun-filled community fair, held in early October, has grown into a three-day event featuring crafts, foods, entertainment, children's games, a parade, car show, and rides; and

Whereas, the people of Burnettown have been blessed with a long tenure of their conscientious public servant, Mayor Hector Rodriquez. His leadership has spurred the town on to a better quality of life for its residents. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives recognize the many accomplishments and dedication of Mayor Hector Rodriquez to the town of Burnettown in Aiken County and wish him well in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mayor Hector Rodriquez.
