RECOGNIZING THE WILSON HALL BARONS OF SUMTER ON THEIR TWENTY-EIGHT STROKE WIN OVER PINEWOOD PREP FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CLASS 3-A STATE GOLF TITLE, AND APPLAUDING COACH HUGH HILL AND THE BARONS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS DURING THE 2000-2001 SEASON.
Whereas, the Wilson Hall Academy Barons of Sumter took a two-day, twenty-eight stroke golf win over Pinewood Prep at the Ocean Point course on Fripp Island for the South Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 3-A State Title; and
Whereas, the state crown capped an 11-3 dual match season for the Barons, who also finished first in Region III 3-A and second in the team competition at the Manning High School Invitational; and
Whereas, individual season honors also accrued to State 3-A co-medalist Ryan Chandler with a tournament-low 75-79 effort; to John Chandler, Patrick Townes, and Laughton Jones, all-conference selections for Region III 3-A; and Thompson Kinney, all-tournament team member at the Manning High School Invitational; and
Whereas, the Barons padded their 15-stroke first-round lead with another 13 strokes on the second day to cruise to the state win after sharing the crown last season with James F. Byrnes; and
Whereas, the state trophy was the fifth to go to Coach Hill in his 30-year coaching career. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives recognize the Wilson Hall Barons of Sumter on their twenty-eight stroke win over Pinewood Prep for the South Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 3-A state golf title, and applaud Coach Hugh Hill and the Barons for their outstanding team and individual efforts during the 2000-2001 season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Hugh Hill and the Wilson Hall Barons golf team.
