TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-101-285 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT FACULTY MEMBERS AT STATE-SUPPORTED INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING WHO TEACH UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE COURSES WHICH INCLUDE IN ANY RESPECT THE METHODOLOGY OR ART OF TEACHING FOR GRADES K-12 MUST HAVE AT A MINIMUM TWO YEARS OF PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE AS A CLASSROOM TEACHER IN GRADES K-12.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-101-285. Beginning July 1, 2004, faculty members at state-supported institutions of higher learning who teach undergraduate or graduate courses which include in any respect the methodology or art of teaching for grades K-12 must have at a minimum two years of practical experience as a classroom teacher in grades K-12. The Commission on Higher Education in consultation with the State Department of Education shall implement and monitor the provisions of this section."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
