A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE DUTCH FORK HIGH SCHOOL SAT TEAM FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM ON WINNING THE CLASS AAAA SAT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the SAT Team at Dutch Fork High School put together the right combination of intellect and test-taking skills to win the 2002 Class AAAA SAT Competition; and

Whereas, the SAT Competition was established by the South Carolina Department of Education in 1999 for academically gifted students, and the contestants take an abbreviated form of the Scholastic Aptitude Test, divided into two sections testing math and two sections testing verbal skills; and

Whereas, the 2002 Dutch Fork SAT Team consisted of a terrific group of young minds including Katie Arnold, Matthew Baker, Michael Bennett, Eric Bousman, Ben Bostic, Robert Brenan, Jonathan Buck, George Crouch, Brandon Dyches, Brian Goodfellow, Elizabeth Harris, Chris Hesson, Ray Holtzworth, Lindsey Houchens, Ahmad Ismail, Jonathan Koehler, Saahir Khan, Megan Kendall, Kathleen Lu, Jessica Manson, Rachel Moore, Rebekah Moore, Ahmed Mohuiddin, Emily Rast, Brett Reynolds, Janna Register, Jessica Shafer, Benjamin Tripp, Alan Walters, Diexia Wang, and Frank Zhao; and

Whereas, under the direction of coaches Mary Ann Lane and Pat Campbell, and with assistance from Sandy Broad, the Dutch Fork SAT Team sharpened their test-taking techniques and honed their knowledge for the competition; and

Whereas, in the first round of competition the team from Dutch Fork won the Regional Championship, with Saahir Khan winning the Individual Regional Championship for the second consecutive year; and

Whereas, Dutch Fork captured the AAAA Lower State Championship in the second round while team member Brett Reynolds tied with two other students from other schools for the Individual AAAA Lower State Championship; and

Whereas, after the third and final round of competition, the students of Dutch Fork claimed their title as AAAA State Champions, with an Individual AAAA State Championship award going to Dutch Fork team member Kathleen Lu; and

Whereas, the 2002 SAT Team from Dutch Fork High School has indeed proved that South Carolina students can compete on the Scholastic Aptitude Test with any students in the country, and the entire Palmetto State can be proud of what these bright young people have accomplished. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the South Carolina House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the Dutch Fork High School SAT Academic Team for its commitment to academic excellence and congratulate the team on winning the Class AAAA SAT State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dutch Fork High School on behalf of its 2002 SAT Team.
