TO CONGRATULATE THE NAVY JUNIOR ROTC PROGRAM OF CHAPIN HIGH SCHOOL IN LEXINGTON COUNTY FOR BEING NAMED THE NO. 1 NAVY JUNIOR ROTC PROGRAM IN THE SOUTHEAST AND TO WISH THEM WELL IN THE UPCOMING NATIONAL COMPETITION.
Whereas, for the fourth consecutive year Chapin High School's Navy Junior ROTC team has been ranked No. 1 in the Southeast by the Navy League, an organization that recognizes Navy programs; and
Whereas, the Chapin team competed against sixty-seven other teams in the region, including North Carolina and Georgia, to achieve this coveted honor; and
Whereas, under the leadership of retired Marine Corps Colonel Richard C. Slack and Senior Chief Charles Cook, retired from the United States Navy, the team was judged in a variety of the areas, including academics, drill, and orienteering; and
Whereas, the Chapin Junior ROTC has a comprehensive program that includes sailing, aviation, and air rifle teams and the publication of their own newspaper, The Chapin Navy News; and
Whereas, the Chapin Junior ROTC adds this southeast honor to its formidable list of awards, including attaining the No. 1 national ranking in 1999 and a No. 2 national ranking the last two years, and are once again competing in the national competition this month; and
Whereas, Colonel Slack, Senior Chief Cook, and the 169 Cadets of Chapin High School are to be commended for their commitment to excellence, their dedication, hard work, and team effort. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Navy Junior ROTC Program of Chapin High School in Lexington County for being named the No. 1 Navy Junior ROTC Program in the Southeast and wish them well in the upcoming national competition.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Chapin High School Navy Junior ROTC team.
