A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 48-1-285 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL TO PROVIDE NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND PERSONS DOWNSTREAM FROM THE SITE OF AN UNPERMITTED SEWAGE SPILL OR OTHER CONTAMINATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The 1976 Cod is amended by adding:

    "Section 48-1-285.    Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the department shall provide notice as expeditiously as possible to the public and persons downstream from the site of an unpermitted sewage spill or other contamination."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
