TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MERIE BRADSHAW KING OF CLARENDON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Merie Bradshaw King born to the late Lena Bradshaw on June 25, 1927, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2002; and
Whereas, she was born in the Foreston section of Clarendon County, where she was also raised by her late aunt and uncle Caro and Clifton Wallace; and
Whereas, she was educated at Santee-Rosenwald School in the Foreston Community and was brought up in Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, laying the foundation for a lifetime of service to the church; and
Whereas, Mrs. King was the devoted wife of the late Henry W. King, Sr., and their union was blessed with three sons, Henry, Jr., George, and Flynn and a daughter, Gwendolyn Smith; she was the beloved grandmother of four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, Mrs. King was a faithful member of the William Chapel Christian Church where she served as church secretary; and
Whereas, she retired from employment with the Sunbeam Corporation of Manning and was dearly loved and respected by all who knew her; and
Whereas, it is proper and fitting for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize the passing of this dear Southern lady and daughter of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, wish to express their profound sorrow upon the death of Merie Bradshaw King of Clarendon County and to extend deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Merie Bradshaw King.
