TO RECOGNIZE MR. JAMES N. SWEENEY OF CHESTERFIELD COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF UNSELFISH PUBLIC SERVICE AND HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CLEMSON UNIVERSITY COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICE PROGRAMS AND TO WISH HIM EVERY HAPPINESS AND GOOD FORTUNE IN HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, James N. Sweeney has been an Agriculture Extension Agent, a County Extension Director in Chesterfield County, and a Cluster Director for Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Dillon Counties; and
Whereas, before coming to Chesterfield County, he taught agriculture at Latta High School in Latta, South Carolina, and worked in private industry in Greenville, South Carolina; and
Whereas, James N. Sweeney has devoted his life to promoting and educating the public about agriculture, forestry, 4-H, and youth opportunities, community development programs, home economics, and outreach programs from Clemson University and other education entities; and
Whereas, James N. Sweeney has participated to the maximum degree of his abilities in the public life of his community and has made invaluable contributions, not only in his profession, but also been active in civic and religious concerns; and
Whereas, James N. Sweeney has been in the vanguard to improve the quality of life for citizens of this area and the State of South Carolina. He has been affiliated with professional associations where he won the respect and admiration of his peers; and
Whereas, James N. Sweeney is known as a pioneer and leader by being the first African American to become chairman of the Chesterfield County School Board, Chesterfield County Rural Water Board, and the Cheraw Recreation Commission; the first to receive the Clemson University Alumni Distinguished Public Service Award, and other great accomplishments; and
Whereas, Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Dillon Counties are indebted to Mr. Sweeney for his many contributions to humanity. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives by this resolution recognize Mr. James N. Sweeney of Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Dillon Counties for his many years of unselfish public service and his contributions to the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Programs and wish him every happiness and good fortune in his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. James N. Sweeney.
