TO COMMEND MADISON DEAN WALL OF GAFFNEY FOR HIS HEROISM DISPLAYED IN CONNECTION WITH MILITARY OPERATIONS AGAINST A HOSTILE FORCE OVER EUROPE DURING WORLD WAR II, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS BEING INDUCTED INTO THE CHEROKEE COUNTY HALL OF BRAVERY.
Whereas, Madison Dean Wall of North Limestone Street, Gaffney, South Carolina, volunteered for active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States on December 8th, 1941, the day after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor launched the United States into World War II; and
Whereas, upon completing basic training Madison Dean Wall was assigned to four years active duty in the United States Army Air Corps during which time he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. During the war years Mr. Wall was stationed in England where he served honorably with the famed Eighth Air Force and flew B-17 bomber missions over enemy occupied territory in Europe; and
Whereas, while serving with the Eighth Air Force Staff Sergeant Wall participated in twenty-nine missions flown over Europe, Normandy, and Northern France. He and his fellow airmen distinguished themselves by flying more than the number of missions required for rotation and, in recognition of his valor in aerial combat, Staff Sergeant Wall was cited for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force over Europe; and
Whereas, during his war years Staff Sergeant Wall earned the respect and admiration of his fellow airmen and of others with whom he served. His decorations and awards earned in aerial combat include the Aerial Gunners Badge, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Service Medal. Staff Sergeant Wall was also personally presented with a Certificate of Valor from his Commanding Officer in testimony of his personal bravery and valor displayed over four long and arduous years of honorable service to his fellow airmen, the Eighth Air Force, the Army Air Corps, and his country; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Wall's valor and honorable service to his country in a time of war is a source of inspiration and pride to his family, many friends, and fellow veterans, to all who know him, to all South Carolinians, and to all true Americans wherever they may be. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, commend Madison Dean Wall of Gaffney for his heroism displayed in connection with military operations against a hostile force over Europe during World War II, and to congratulate him on the occasion of his being inducted into the Cherokee County Hall of Bravery.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Madison Dean Hall of Gaffney.
