TO AMEND SECTION 59-26-85, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, AND CERTIFICATION PROCEDURES FOR TEACHERS WHO HAVE RECEIVED NATIONAL CERTIFICATION FROM THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS (NBPTS), SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGISTS WHO HAVE RECEIVED NATIONAL CERTIFICATION FROM THE AMERICAN SPEECH-LANGUAGE HEARING ASSOCIATION (ASHA), BEGINNING WITH FISCAL YEAR 2002-2003, SHALL RECEIVE THE SAME INCREASE IN PAY FOR THE LIFE OF THE CERTIFICATION AS DO TEACHERS WHO HAVE RECEIVED NBPTS CERTIFICATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 59-26-85 of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 393 of 2000, is amended by adding:
"(C) Speech-Language pathologists who have received national certification from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), beginning with fiscal year 2002-2003, shall receive the same increase in pay for the life of the certification as do teachers who have received national certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
