TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL LADY BLUE FLAME VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE AAA CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR COACH PEGGY ANTHONY FOR HER EXCELLENT COACHING.
Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina honor the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team for their impressive winning season, which culminated in their AAA State Championship victory over Camden High School on November 3, 2001; and
Whereas, the team finished the season with records of 14-0 in the region, 20-0 in the regular season, and 5-0 in the playoffs. The Lady Flame's overall record was 33-3 with losses only during out-of-state tournaments; and
Whereas, at White Knoll High School in Irmo, Pickens dominated the state championship match against Camden, winning in the first three games 15-2, 15-3, and 16-14; and
Whereas, the Pickens High School Volleyball Coach, Peggy Anthony, received high honors this season when she recorded her 700th victory on Wednesday, October 10, 2001, in a match against Wren High School. Coach Anthony set the standard in South Carolina as the most victorious volleyball coach; and
Whereas, Coach Anthony has won eight state championships, has been named South Carolina Coach of the Year twice and Region Coach of the Year fifteen times, has had fourteen teams with an undefeated conference record, has never had a losing season in her twenty-five years of coaching, and has had forty-eight of her players receive athletic scholarships; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they might recognize and honor the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team and Coach Peggy Anthony on their record season and championship win. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team for an outstanding season and for winning the State AAA Championship, and to honor Coach Peggy Anthony for her excellent coaching.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pickens High School.
