The House assembled at 10:00 a.m.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by Rep. J.R. Smith as follows:

Dear God, Great Architect of the Universe, please guide us as we plan for the coming legislative session. As King Solomon built his temple, give us the wisdom to build the foundations of this our House on a rock-solid footing of thought and wise judgement. Help each of us to be ever mindful of the wide range of needs of our citizens. Let us hear the voices of the poor as well as the wealthy; the sick as well as those sound in body and mind; the highly educated as well as those who struggle with each word and the elderly as well as those generations yet unborn. Let our work be such that it will stand as an edifice reminding all of what government should be. As we return to our homes, protect us on our journeys and grant us time to be thankful for the many blessings we enjoy. Above all, please walk with us and provide Your sage counsel for our every word and deed. Amen.

Pursuant to Rule 6.3, the House of Representatives was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America by the SPEAKER.

After corrections to the Journal of the proceedings of yesterday, the SPEAKER ordered it confirmed.
