VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 56-1-50, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ISSUANCE OF BEGINNER'S PERMITS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A STUDENT WHO IS FIFTEEN YEARS OF AGE ENROLLED IN A HIGH SCHOOL DRIVER'S TRAINING COURSE IS NOT REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A BEGINNER'S PERMIT TO OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE; AND TO REPEAL SECTION 56-5-6140 RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES PROVIDING A COPY OF MOVING VIOLATION CHARGES AGAINST A PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE USED DURING THE VIOLATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 56-1-50(E)(1) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 258 of 1998, is further amended to read:
"(1) a student fifteen years of age regularly enrolled in a high school of this State which conducts a driver's training course while the student is participating in the course and when accompanied by a qualified instructor of the course; and"
SECTION 2. Section 56-5-6140 of the 1976 Code is repealed.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
