A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MR. REGGIE DEAN OF CAMDEN, SOUTH CAROLINA ON BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.

Whereas, Mr. Reggie Dean, Camden High School Principal since 1993, has been named South Carolina High School Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA); and

Whereas, Mr. Dean will be recognized in June at the annual state School Administrators' Leadership Conference and will represent South Carolina in the Met Life/NAASP National Principal of the year competition; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean was selected by a SCASA panel of judges from applications which included letters of recommendation and details of professional leadership; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean began his educational career at Camden High School as a teacher and a coach in 1975; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean has served as Assistant Principal at Camden High School and Camden Middle School and as Principal of Camden Middle School and North Central High School; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean has twice been named Kershaw County Principal of the Year and was AAA State Conference President. He is currently chairman of the state Activities Committee of the South Carolina High School League and completed a term last year as President of the Region 6 AAA Conference; and

Whereas, under Mr. Dean's leadership, Camden High school has received a number of academic honors including a Palmetto Silver award in 2002 and a Palmetto Gold award in 2003. These awards recognize schools with high levels of academic achievement and high rates of student academic achievement; and

Whereas, in 2003 Camden High School was also a leader in SAT scores having achieved the 12th highest score among state high schools; and

Whereas, Mr. Dean has also been honored for his efforts to improve student learning, particularly for ninth grade students, by securing a $500,000 Smaller Learning Communities grant from the U.S. Department of Education. As a result of Mr. Dean's direction, Camden High School will implement a "Freshman Academy" for all incoming ninth-graders in the 2004-05 school year; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina Senate pauses to recognize Mr. Reggie Dean for serving the students of Camden High School with excellence. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend Mr. Reggie Dean of Camden, South Carolina on being named South Carolina High School Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA).

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Reggie Dean and Camden High School.
