A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE GAFFNEY ELK'S LODGE #1305 ON THE OCCASION OF ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO THE LODGE FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, the Gaffney Elk's Lodge #1305 was officially chartered on July 7, 1954, and Dr. R. C. Mikota was officially registered as the first member; and

Whereas, over the past fifty years, the club has grown to about three hundred members and produced numerous regional, state, and national officers, including the current South Carolina State President, Ned Phillips; and

Whereas, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in charitable contributions over the past half-century, the Gaffney Elk's Lodge #1305 has continuously worked with Alzheimer's research and drug awareness, and its members have helped fund and support numerous contributions to causes such as law enforcement appreciation and school appreciation; and

Whereas, by funding numerous youth league teams, supporting a summer camp for the handicapped which is held on the premises at the lodge hall, and sponsoring a boy scout troop, the Gaffney Elk Lodge #1305 has generously contributed to the community, as well as to the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, in addition to their charitable works, over the past twenty-five years the lodge members have generated over tens of thousands of dollars to buy food and toys for the underprivileged members of the community through their annual "Christmas Basket Fund"; and

Whereas, on Saturday, July 24, 2004, the Gaffney Elk Lodge #1305 will formally celebrate its Fiftieth Anniversary with a special program at the lodge hall, inviting Elk members from across the State to join in the celebration, along with their oldest living member, Dr. Jay Hammett of Gaffney; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Gaffney Elk Lodge #1305 on this momentous occasion and look forward to many more years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and congratulate the Gaffney Elk's Lodge #1305 on the occasion of its Fiftieth Anniversary and extend their best wishes to the lodge for continued success in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Gaffney Elk Lodge #1305.
