VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE DEEP APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF CHEROKEE COUNTY FOR ITS UNWAVERING DEDICATION TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF THIS COMMUNITY FOR THE PAST FIFTY YEARS.
Whereas, approximately sixty Boys and Girls Clubs across South Carolina are administered by trained professionals and volunteers, who are committed to developing necessary leadership skills and character traits in today's youth; and
Whereas, these clubs encourage this state's young people to enhance their social and work skills by promoting academics, personal growth, and effective communication; and
Whereas, for over a century, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America have served as leading organizations in youth development and have been dedicated to promoting positive attitudes and strong work ethics in the future leaders of this nation; and
Whereas, in 1954, the Cherokee County Boys and Girls Club was formed and is celebrating fifty years of service to the community this year; and
Whereas, between 1954 and 1967 the club operated only three hours a day, two to three days a week, and frequently moved locations because it used borrowed vacant buildings; and
Whereas, C. E. Saint-Amanda, C. D. Padgett, Dr. Bill Brumbach, Waite C. Hamrick, Jr., Raymond Parker, and Willard Hayes played major roles during the club's formative years; and
Whereas, its present location's land was purchased and a 12,000 square foot clubhouse was built in 1967; and
Whereas, a full-time executive, Boyd C. Meetze, was employed in 1969 and the Boys Club of Cherokee County, Inc., became a full member of the Boys Clubs of America national organization. Its facility was renovated and enlarged to 18,000 square feet in 1984; and
Whereas, its name was changed to the Boys and Girls Club of Cherokee County, Inc., in 1990 to better represent the youth served and to clearly identify with the national organization, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the Senate to recognize the accomplishments and rich history of the Boys and Girls Club of Cherokee County on this special occasion. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their deep appreciation to the Boys and Girls Club of Cherokee County for its unwavering dedication to the young people of this community for the past fifty years.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the office of the Boys and Girls Club of Cherokee County.
