TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING WITH SCHOOL YEAR 2003-2004, THE STARTING DATE AND ENDING DATE FOR THE ANNUAL SCHOOL TERM OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS ONE THROUGH SEVEN MUST BE SET BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF EACH RESPECTIVE DISTRICT IN THEIR SOLE DISCRETION, PROVIDED THAT THE ANNUAL SCHOOL TERM MUST COMPLY WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 59-1-420 RELATING TO LENGTH OF THE SCHOOL TERM.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 59-5-71 of the 1976 Code, or any regulation or action of the State Board of Education to the contrary, beginning with school year 2003-2004, the starting date and ending date for the annual school term of Spartanburg County School Districts One through Seven must be set by the board of trustees of each respective district in their sole discretion, provided that the annual school term must comply with all requirements of Section 59-1-420 relating to length of the school term.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
