VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-101-295 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT AN ACADEMIC OR A NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIP, GRANT, OR LOAN FUNDED IN WHOLE OR IN PART WITH STATE OR LOCAL FUNDS MAY NOT BE AWARDED BY A PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING AS DEFINED IN SECTION 59-103-5 OR BY ANOTHER ENTITY TO A STUDENT WHO IS NOT A UNITED STATES CITIZEN.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 101, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-101-295. A public institution of higher learning as defined in Section 59-103-5 or another entity may not award an academic or a need-based scholarship, grant, or loan funded in whole or in part with state or local funds to a student who is not a United States citizen."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
