A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-1-287 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON WHO IS CONVICTED OF CAUSING A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER PENALTY, MUST BE FINED TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS AND HAVE HIS DRIVER'S LICENSE SUSPENDED UNTIL HE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES A DRIVER TRAINING COURSE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 1, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-1-287.    Notwithstanding another provision of law, a person who is convicted of causing a motor vehicle accident, in addition to any other penalty, must be fined two hundred dollars and have his driver's license suspended until he successfully completes a driver training course."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
