VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MRS. MARY LOIS GERALD OF DILLON FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE AND FIRM COMMITMENT TO MARION COUNTY AND ITS CITIZENS BY ENSURING THE BETTERMENT OF THE COMMUNITY THROUGH HER LEADERSHIP IN MANY LOCAL SETTINGS, INCLUDING HER MEMBERSHIP ON THE MARION REGIONAL HOSPITAL SYSTEM'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND TO RECOGNIZE MRS. GERALD FOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS SHE HAS ENJOYED THROUGHOUT HER LIFE.
Whereas, the giving of one's time and energy to improve the general welfare of a community is both extremely selfless and honorable; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize and hold in high regard those special individuals, like Mrs. Mary Lois Gerald of Dillon, who devote their lives to serving the citizens of this State; and
Whereas, being inspired by her family's emphasis on education, Mrs. Gerald excelled in high school in North Carolina and at Spelman College in Atlanta where she earned her degree in education; and
Whereas, upon graduating, she began teaching school in Dillon, South Carolina, where she met her husband Maxie Gerald, who was also a teacher, and the two raised their four children; and
Whereas, Mrs. Gerald later increased her educational credentials by receiving her Master's Degree in Education from South Carolina State University and attending Francis Marion University on a special scholarship for minorities to earn her counseling accreditation; and
Whereas, Mrs. Gerald used those degrees to aid her in educating and counseling young people and families in Marion County School District Two until 1993 and by serving as an influential member on Marion County's first Department of Social Services Board and on the Marion Housing Authority and Council for Aging; and
Whereas, for the past fifteen years, Mrs. Gerald has shown her commitment to her local community as a trustee of the Marion Regional Hospital System by personally making sure that all citizens of the county receive excellent health care; and
Whereas, Mrs. Gerald is described as a compassionate, intelligent, and generous person by her colleagues and close friends; and
Whereas, her dedication to better hospital care extends not only to the people of Marion County but also to all South Carolinians, as Mrs. Gerald is a member of the South Carolina Hospital Association and an alternate delegate to the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly wish to express their gratitude to Mrs. Mary Lois Gerald of Dillon for her dedicated service and firm commitment to Marion County and its citizens by ensuring the betterment of the community through her leadership in many local settings, including her membership on the Marion Regional Hospital System's Board of Trustees and recognize Mrs. Gerald for the accomplishments she has enjoyed throughout her life.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Mary Lois Gerald of Dillon.
