A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL CAVALIERS OF SPARTANBURG AND THEIR COACH, JOY COUCH, ON WINNING THE 2003 CLASS AAAA GIRLS' BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND DEDICATION TO BECOME A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, to become a champion in basketball, all members of the team and the coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, by putting together all of their energy and skills, Coach Joy Couch and her able coaching staff, including Angie Dewart, Yolanda Settles, Sheila Curry, and Casey McMeans, and the girls' basketball team of Dorman High School of Spartanburg beat out almost every opponent to have the chance to become State Champions; and

Whereas, along their journey to the championship game, this team enjoyed a 10-0 region record, was the Region II Class AAAA Champions, and won twenty-three games in a row; and

Whereas, on March 7, 2003, the members of the Dorman High School Girls' Basketball Team played their most important game of the season at the Carolina Center against a gifted Dutch Fork team, defeating them by a score of 62-43 to capture the 2003 Class AAAA Girls' Basketball State Championship and to end the season with a 29-1 record; and

Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Jasmine Collier, Brittany Fowler, Micaela Jackson, Jade Hughes, Sarah Jane Harris, Jessica Payden, Tamika Pollard, Teeanna Smith, Kelly White, Shirley White, Shante Williams, Nicki Wood, and Jamie Yarborough; and

Whereas, with the support of their family, friends, and community, these young women have become champions both on and off the basketball court. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, wish to extend their congratulations to the Dorman High School Cavaliers of Spartanburg and their coach, Joy Couch, on winning the 2003 Class AAAA Girls' Basketball Championship and to commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and dedication to become a championship team.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Dorman High School Girls' Basketball Team and Coach Joy Couch of Spartanburg.
