A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE PINEWOOD PREPARATORY SCHOOL "PANTHERS" VARSITY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH, PAT EIDSON, ON ITS VICTORY IN THE 2003 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives applaud the Pinewood Preparatory School "Panthers" Varsity Girls Volleyball Team on winning the state championship in an exciting win over the Ashley Hall Girls Volleyball Team in October 2003; and

Whereas, being a member of a sports team gives young people the opportunity to learn the invaluable skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing athletic talent; and

Whereas, to be a champion in volleyball, all members of the team and the coaching staff must possess outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, with the guidance and leadership of Head Coach Pat Eidson, the Girls Volleyball Team of Pinewood faced intimidating opponents and tough matches but were rewarded with the chance to become State Champions; and

Whereas, along their journey to the championship game, the "Panthers" enjoyed success in several competitions, entering the state finals with a record of 20-3; and

Whereas, capturing the title of State Champions, the 2003 Girls Volleyball Team defeated five-time defending champion Ashley Hall in a nail-biting match that was the best final match between the teams in three years; and

Whereas, with their win at the state championship match, the Pinewood Girls Volleyball Team sealed their winning season with their twentieth victory, bringing home their third state championship and the first state championship win since 1994; and

Whereas, sealing the victory for the "Panthers" were the big plays executed by senior hitters Adriane Miler and Megan Haupt and the outstanding performance of junior Jasmin Brooks late in the third match; and

Whereas, the Pinewood Girls Volleyball Team brought great pride to their friends and family and also to the students, faculty, alumni, the staff of Pinewood Preparatory School, and the community as a whole; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and challenge them to use those special skills and abilities in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Pinewood Preparatory School Girls Volleyball Team and Head Coach, Pat Eidson, on its victory in the 2003 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA State Championship Game.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Pinewood Preparatory School Girls Volleyball Team and Head Coach Pat Eidson.
