A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SINCERE CONDOLENCES OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF SARA BRANYON ROGERS OF PIEDMONT, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THE SAD OCCASION OF HER DEATH SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2004.

Whereas, Sara Branyon Rogers was a native of Honea Path who dedicated forty years of her full life teaching and counseling students in the public schools of Antreville and Belton and at Palmetto High School; and

Whereas, she prepared for that respected educational service with a bachelor's degree from Erskine College, with honors, and a Master of Arts from Furman University; and

Whereas, she retired from teaching in 1980, but not from her interest in education and young people. A memorial scholarship in her name and that of her husband, Jake, provides scholarship monies to Erskine College athletes in recognition of their belief of the importance of sports in education; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rogers also was a dedicated member of the Young Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Anderson, where she was the recipient of the Flora Halliday Leadership Award and a member of the Business Women's Circle; and

Whereas, Mrs. Sara Rogers leaves a legacy of education, generosity, and faith to her surviving family: daughter Patricia Ruth Rogers of Los Angeles, daughter and son-in-law Sara Shirley Rogers and Ronald C. Fulmer, Sr., of Columbia, grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law William E. Branyon and Mary Ruth Branyon of Landrum, and other relatives and friends; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rogers' life exemplifies the dedication and hard work of South Carolina's treasured teachers and mothers. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sara Branyon Rogers of Piedmont, South Carolina, on the sad occasion of her death Sunday, February 8, 2004.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sara Branyon Rogers.
