A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. JIM FAILE, MANAGING EDITOR OF THE MESSENGER FOR BEING NAMED THE SOUTH CAROLINA WEEKLY JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA PRESS ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, Mr. Jim Faile is a native of Hartsville, South Carolina, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Faile, Sr.; and

Whereas, he is a 1975 graduate of Emmanuel Baptist School, and currently serves on the school committee of Emmanuel Christian School; and

Whereas, Jim earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Francis Marion University in 1980; and

Whereas, in 1983, he returned to Francis Marion University to study mass communications, and upon graduating, served an internship as an editorial writer for the Florence Morning News; and

Whereas, in 1984, Jim became a general assignment reporter at the News and Press in Darlington, and in 1994 he was named editor; and

Whereas, in 1993-1994, he was named the Francis Marion University Pee Dee Newspaper Reporter of the Year; and

Whereas, Jim joined The Messenger in 1998 as senior staff reporter and was named managing editor in 1999; and

Whereas, throughout his career, he won numerous South Carolina Press Association awards in nearly every news category, including first place in business reporting for the past three years, and first, second, and third place awards during the 2003 contest; and

Whereas, with almost twenty years of dedicated reporting which exemplifies his commitment to his profession and his community, Jim has been named the South Carolina Weekly Journalist of the Year by the South Carolina Press Association; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations, to recognize this impressive accomplishment by a son of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Jim Faile, Managing Editor of The Messenger for being named the South Carolina Weekly Journalist of the Year by the South Carolina Press Association.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jim Faile.
