A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE DR. PAUL PRICHARD, PRINCIPAL OF CLEMSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, UPON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER A FORTY-THREE YEAR CAREER IN EDUCATION AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize South Carolinians who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to helping build a sense of togetherness and developing young minds in their communities; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those who teach and to encourage these individuals who continue to inspire children year after year; and

Whereas, Dr. Paul Prichard, Principal of Clemson Elementary School, will retire at the end of the school year, with more than forty-three years in the educational field and fourteen years at Clemson Elementary; and

Whereas, an Iowa native, Dr. Prichard attended school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1957 and was immediately drafted into the United States Marine Corps where he spent four years on active duty and thirty years with the reserves, retiring in 1988 as a full colonel; and

Whereas, in 1961, Dr. Prichard became a teacher and coach at Washington High School in Washington, North Carolina, where he stayed for three years before moving to Efland, North Carolina; and

Whereas, after serving as a teaching principal in Efland, Dr. Prichard moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he became an elementary school principal at the first integrated elementary school there; and

Whereas, a former instructor at the University of North Carolina, Dr. Prichard also had various jobs such as elementary principal for a model reading school and director of instruction and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction; and

Whereas, after serving as principal at three schools and completing thirty years in education, Dr. Prichard retired from the school district in Chapel Hill and came to Clemson in 1989; and

Whereas, realizing that his favorite times were as an elementary school principal, Dr. Prichard took the principal's position at Clemson Elementary School, which was then called Morrison Elementary School, and he was there through the planning, building, and implementation of the current Clemson Elementary School; and

Whereas, Dr. Prichard's presence at Clemson Elementary School has impacted hundreds of young lives and his work in the educational field reflects his dedication and devotion to education; and

Whereas, Dr. Paul Prichard has been an inspiration to the public school system here in South Carolina and his presence will be sorely missed upon his retirement from Clemson Elementary on June 30. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and congratulate Dr. Paul Prichard, Principal of Clemson Elementary School, upon his retirement after a forty-three year career in education and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Paul Prichard of Clemson.
