A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO OFFER WARMEST AND HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. AND MRS. JASPER SALMOND OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF THE CELEBRATION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, AND TO EXTEND TO THEM AND THEIR FAMILY EVERY GOOD WISH FOR SUCCESS, HEALTH, AND CONTINUED HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, Jasper and Thelma Salmond both graduated from Benedict College on May 25, 1954, and on that very same day with their pursuit of life-long love and happiness aglow, the couple was united in holy matrimony; and

Whereas, over the course of their marriage, Jasper and Thelma Salmond have raised a beautiful and loving family of two children, Jeryl and Jenita; and

Whereas, both have had successful careers in their chosen professions with Jasper having served as a school teacher, principal, and currently a businessman and member of the Richland County School District 1 School Board. He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto and numerous other prestigious awards. Thelma has served as a successful school teacher and is a member of Gamma Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and

Whereas, both Jasper and Thelma are devoted members of First Calvary Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the date of May 25, 2004, marks the Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary of Jasper Salmond and Thelma Salmond. An important milestone in their lives, it also marks fifty years of love, devotion, and mutual support that enabled them to be the strong, loving Christian couple they are and the good friends and caring neighbors they have been to so many over the years; and

Whereas, on Friday, May 21, 2004, the Salmond's children, their families, and many friends will gather to honor their parents, Jasper and Thelma, and to celebrate their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary at the Summit Club in the City of Columbia; and

Whereas, it is the desire of the members of the General Assembly to join in the spirit of this happy occasion and express both their warmest congratulations and heartfelt admiration to the couple on the occasion of the celebration of their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, offer warmest and heartfelt congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Salmond of Richland County on the occasion of the celebration of their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary, and to extend to them and their family every good wish for success, health, and continued happiness in the years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Salmond.
