A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR THE GREENVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "RED RAIDERS" BOYS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM AND COACH WARREN TURNER ON WINNING THEIR SECOND CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THREE YEARS AND TO WISH THEM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are proud to recognize the Greenville High School "Red Raiders" Boys Varsity Soccer Team on winning the 2004 Class AAA State Championship held at Memorial Stadium in Columbia on Saturday, May 15, 2004; and

Whereas, the Red Raiders finished the season with an impressive overall record of twenty-three wins and five losses; and

Whereas, the team worked together to defeat Greer by a score of 6-1, York by a score of 5-1, and Daniel by a score of 3-2 in the playoffs; and

Whereas, in a stunningly dominating performance, the Greenville Red Raiders captured the Class AAA Upper State Boys Soccer Championship defeating the Eastside Eagles by a score of 6-2 earning the right to return to the big dance against a strong Myrtle Beach Seahawks team; and

Whereas, in an exciting championship game, the Red Raiders emerged victorious beating the Seahawks 3-2 and becoming the sixteenth consecutive upper state team to win the state title continuing the tradition of upper state dominance in the state championship; and

Whereas, winning a state championship takes the time, talents, and efforts of many including Coach Warren Turner and Athletic Director Bill Johnson along with the support of Principal Ginger M. Stuart; and

Whereas, the members of this outstanding 2004 Championship team are: Jack Johnston, Thomas Price, Alex Pangraze, Reeves Knight, Jeff Johnston, Joseph Grunewald, William Koch, Wes Paul, Bryan Padgett, Davis Goodwin, Nick Papapieris, Logan Huff, Joel Simmons, Blair Rushing, Davis Orders, William Johnston, James Basler, Lawson Janarella, Eric Pangraze, David Catron, Sam Kleckley, Mason Couvillion, John Taylor Dalton, and Taylor Smith; and

Whereas, four players, Joseph Grunewald, William Johnston, Bryan Padgett, and Thomas Price, were named to the All-Region Team; Joseph Grunewald and Bryan Padgett were named to the AAA All-State Team and were also chosen to play in the 2004 North-South Soccer Classic; and

Whereas, four talented players have committed to play college soccer: Joel Simmons will play at North Greenville College, William Koch will play at Newberry College, and Joseph Grunewald and Bryan Padgett will both play at Presbyterian College; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to pause and again recognize the Greenville Red Raiders for its unwavering determination, athletic abilities, and incredible talent. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina congratulate and honor the Greenville High School "Red Raiders" Boys Varsity Soccer Team and Coach Warren Turner on winning their second Class AAA State Championship in three years and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Warren Turner on behalf of the Greenville High School "Red Raiders" Boys Varsity Soccer Team.
