A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE MAULDIN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2004 STATE CLASS AAAA BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were pleased to learn that the Mauldin High School Boys Baseball Team defeated a fine Stratford team 11-10 and 9-4 on May 10-12, 2004, to win the 2004 State Class AAAA Baseball Championship; and

Whereas, the Mauldin Mavericks advanced to the state championship series after winning the Upper State Championship on May 7, 2004, by defeating Lexington High School 4-3, and also won the Region 1 Championship during the regular season; and

Whereas, this championship marks the third baseball state championship for Mauldin High School and also marks the sixth season in a row that Mauldin has won at least twenty games after having completed this season with a 28-6 won/loss record; and

Whereas, the eight seniors on the Mavericks team finished their careers with three region championships in a row, two district championships in a row, and forty-nine wins over the last two seasons; and

Whereas, perhaps the most outstanding accomplishment of the Mauldin boys this season is the fact that the members of the team have compiled an overall 3.58 GPA which is a credit not only to themselves but to their school and school district as well; and

Whereas, members of this championship team include: Kaleb Stone, Kevin Smith, Andrew Williams, Buck Bates, Garrett Givens, Rand Baughman, Andrew Runion, Jay Cranford, Hunter Knowles, Clarke Russell, Ryan Hileman, Jason Hudson, Tim Rau, Chris Hammett, Steve Alvarez, Kyle Huffling, Adam Bullard, Barry Loucks, Eric Smith, Justin Hayes, Brett Rice, Chad Gray, and Scott Coleman. The coaches and assistants include Head Coach Scott Freeman; assistant coaches Todd Robinson, Jonathon Burroughs, and John Mitchell; managers Grayson Griffin and Jeff Rau; and scout Mark Edmonston; and

Whereas, the Mauldin baseball team and its coaches received many honors as a result of its 2004 season. The High School Sports Report named Andrew Runion the AAAA Player of the Year and Head Coach Scott Freeman AAAA Coach of the Year, and Andrew Runion, Jay Cranford, Rand Baughman, Barry Loucks, and Ryan Hileman were named All-Region; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this outstanding group of young athletes and their fine coaching staff upon the occasion of their winning this truly deserved championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate the Mauldin High School Boys Baseball Team for winning the 2004 State Class AAAA Baseball Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Scott Freeman.
