A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND KATHRYN "KAYLEE" ROGERS OF LEXINGTON FOR HER DILIGENCE AND DEDICATION AS A GIRL SCOUT AND CONGRATULATE HER ON RECEIVING THE HIGHEST AWARD GIVEN IN GIRL SCOUTING--THE GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to recognize young people in this State who selflessly give of their time, talents, and energy to better their local communities, the State, and ultimately our nation; and

Whereas, Kaylee Rogers of Lexington is one of these committed and gifted young people who serves as a positive role model, not just for other Girl Scouts, but for all of South Carolina's youth; and

Whereas, Girl Scouts across America are held in high regard and are taught the importance of academics and personal growth; and

Whereas, the Girl Scout Gold Award symbolizes outstanding accomplishments in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development and is earned by less than three percent of all senior Girl Scouts each year; and

Whereas, the highest award that a Girl Scout can achieve, the Girl Scout Gold Award, is the equivalent to a Boy Scout achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, and this prestigious award is given each year to only a few outstanding, hard-working, and dedicated young women; and

Whereas, to achieve this award, the Girl Scout must design, implement, and complete a project that demonstrates organizational and time management skills, along with an understanding of the Girl Scout Promise and Law; and

Whereas, recognizing the value of a good education and a strong foundation in reading and writing, Ms. Rogers instituted a reading and writing workshop for a group of second graders. She taught reading strategies and helped the students write letters, biographies, short stories, and daily journal entries; and

Whereas, Ms. Rogers received the Girl Scout Gold Award in May of 2004 during the Girl Scout Council of the Congaree Area's annual recognition dinner where her personal achievements over her years of scouting were honored; and

Whereas, the beloved daughter of Mary and Tim Rogers of Lexington, this well-rounded young woman is also a talented musician, a member of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, and a graduate of Lexington High School with plans to attend the Honors College at the College of Charleston; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the accomplishments and perseverance of Kaylee Rogers as she sought to earn her award and in wishing her continued success in all her future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Kathryn "Kaylee" Rogers of Lexington for her diligence and dedication as a Girl Scout and congratulate her on receiving the highest award given in girl scouting--the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Kathryn "Kaylee" Rogers of Lexington.
