VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND JODY WEAVER AND LIEUTENANT DAVID JONES, OF EAST CLARENDON MIDDLE SCHOOL IN CLARENDON COUNTY, FOR THEIR RAPID RESPONSE AND BRAVERY IN SAVING STUDENT JOSHUA LLOYD FROM CHOKING.
Whereas, an everyday hero is one who selflessly comes to the aid of another, and South Carolina is always proud and honored to recognize those who give of themselves to help their fellow citizens; and
Whereas, Jody Weaver, a sixth-grade social studies teacher, and Lieutenant David Jones, a resource officer, at East Clarendon Middle School, became everyday heroes this March when they saved fifth-grader Joshua Lloyd from choking during lunch in the school's cafeteria; and
Whereas, during the lunch hour, Joshua began to choke on his lunch, and after his friends realized that Joshua was not pretending, one of them began to call for help; and
Whereas, Mr. Weaver rushed over to Joshua to find him unconscious and slumped over the lunch table. He began to use the Heimlich maneuver on Joshua, but was having trouble lifting Joshua in order to do the procedure properly; and
Whereas, Lieutenant Jones stepped in and together the two men performed the Heimlich and were able to dislodge the food particles that were blocking Joshua's airway, allowing Joshua to breathe freely again; and
Whereas, while both men were trained in using the Heimlich maneuver, neither had ever had to use it in a real life situation and both Mr. Weaver and Lieutenant Jones were relieved that their training and quick thinking paid off when Joshua began to breathe again; and
Whereas, the Palmetto State is proud and blessed to have citizens such as Jody Weaver and Lieutenant David Jones, and they are both true heroes in every sense of the word. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Jody Weaver and Lieutenant David Jones, of East Clarendon Middle School in Clarendon County, for their rapid response and bravery in saving student Joshua Lloyd from choking.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jody Weaver and Lieutenant David Jones.
