A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO WELCOME BRIGADIER GENERAL ABRAHAM TURNER BACK TO SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO COMMEND HIM ON BECOMING THE FORTY-FIRST COMMANDING GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY TRAINING CENTER AT FORT JACKSON.

Whereas, a native of Mount Pleasant, Brigadier General Abraham Turner took command at Fort Jackson in a ceremony held on January 9, 2004, at the Community Activity Center; and

Whereas, after a distinguished military career of nearly twenty-five years, this soldier who has served his country around the world came home to South Carolina; and

Whereas, Brigadier General Turner began his commission in the Army in 1976 and over the years, served both overseas and stateside. His experience in combat as well as education made him a well-rounded soldier and a dedicated leader; and

Whereas, Brigadier General Turner comes to Fort Jackson from Camp Doha, Kuwait, where he was formerly the Assistant Chief of Staff, C-3, Combined Forces Land Component Command; and

Whereas, through his long and varied military career, he has developed and honed the skills that are necessary to train soldiers for combat and military service in general; and

Whereas, Brigadier General Turner's priorities in his new position include training and preparing soldiers with the appropriate skills and focus needed to defeat any enemy on any battlefield, maintaining the well-being and welfare of soldiers and their families, continuing the services available at the fort for retirees, and maintaining a good relationship with community leaders; and

Whereas, he serves not just as a role model for the recruits training at Fort Jackson, but for all South Carolinians, and the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased he is bringing his considerable talent and expertise back to the State and expect he will ably guide the fort through times of change and expansion. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, welcome Brigadier General Abraham Turner back to South Carolina and commend him on becoming the forty-first Commanding General of the United States Army Training Center at Fort Jackson.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Brigadier General Abraham Turner.
