VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THOMAS C. "TOM" DAVIS OF BEAUFORT UPON HIS DEPARTURE FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, a successful administration requires the dedication and considerable knowledge of the operations of the State by many people for the administration to run smoothly and to ultimately promote efficiency in the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, Tom Davis of Beaufort has been an integral part of Governor Mark Sanford's gubernatorial administration, and his presence will be greatly missed, not just by the Governor and his staff, but also by members of the General Assembly and all those who were privileged to know him through his work at the State House; and
Whereas, graduating from Furman University in 1982, Mr. Davis went on to the University of Maryland School of Law and graduated in 1985. He then began work at the law firm of Harvey & Battey, P. A. in Beaufort; and
Whereas, an impressive legal career before going to work for his friend, Governor Sanford, Mr. Davis became the youngest attorney ever admitted as a shareholder in his firm at the age of twenty-seven; and in 1994, his over two hundred hours of pro bono work helped his firm earn the South Carolina Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award from the South Carolina Bar; and
Whereas, Mr. Davis' public service did not begin when he came to work with the Governor's Office; he is a former member of the Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority's Board of Directors, a former board member of the Beaufort County Planning Board, the Lowcountry Council of Governments, the Greater Beaufort Chamber of Commerce, and the Historic Beaufort Foundation; and
Whereas, serving as policy advisor to Governor Mark Sanford during his 2002 campaign, Mr. Davis was selected to be the Governor's senior policy advisor, and in 2004, he was named Co-Chief-of-Staff to the Governor and legislative liaison to the legislature; and
Whereas, with a strong work ethic and an institutional knowledge of the Governor's key policies, Tom Davis has been an invaluable advisor and friend to Governor Sanford and he will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Thomas C. "Tom" Davis of Beaufort upon his departure from the Governor's Office and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Thomas C. "Tom" Davis of Beaufort.
