VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE WARDLAW ACADEMY "PATRIOTS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY ON WINNING THE 2003 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND TEAMWORK, AND TO WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the Wardlaw Academy Boys Basketball Team defeated Calhoun Academy 50 to 44 on Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Sumter to win the 2003 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship; and
Whereas, the "Patriots" finished the season with a record of 23 wins and 7 losses. They were one win shy of their school record of 24 victories posted by last year's team; and
Whereas, Wardlaw Academy captured the State Championship in a thrilling overtime. Trevor Lyons led the team with 16 points, and Craig Engle and Tyler Lyons also performed well in double figures for the game; and
Whereas, the Wardlaw Academy Boys Basketball Team is led by Coach Dennis Gibson who instilled the competitive spirit and teamwork it took for the "Patriots" to become State Champions; and
Whereas, the 2003 Wardlaw Academy Boys Basketball Championship Team is comprised of: Tyler Lyons, Trevor Lyons, Grant Hayes, Kevin Molony, Clayton Bethune, Eric Coldiron, Craig Engle, Will Bryan, and Jake Bryan; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are proud of the spirit and accomplishments of the 2003 Wardlaw Academy Boys Basketball Team and take this opportunity to congratulate and commend them for their championship performance. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Wardlaw Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team on winning the 2003 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship, commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and teamwork, and wish them every success in their future academic and athletic endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Dennis Gibson and the Wardlaw Academy Boys Basketball Team.
