A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND RECOGNIZE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE REVEREND SAMUEL BOOKER MARSHALL FOR HIS THIRTY YEARS OF SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 3.

Whereas, the Reverend Samuel Booker Marshall, D.D., was born in the parsonage of Good Hope Baptist Church in St. George, South Carolina, a son of the late Reverend Jerry and Cinderella Davis Marshall; and

Whereas, Dr. Marshall became a baptized believer in Christ Jesus at the age of ten, and became a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church; and

Whereas, after graduating from Voorhees High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and a Master of Education, both from South Carolina State College, and in 1984, he was bestowed the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina; and

Whereas, in Dr. Marshall's professional career, he has served as Principal at three different high schools: Ruffin High School, Central High School, and Cross High School; owned and managed Shuler-Marshall Funeral Home; and has been a member of the South Carolina Morticians Association, Inc., and the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc.; and

Whereas, he is serving in the religious community as Pastor to Second Providence Baptist Church and Good Hope Baptist Church; is Moderator for the Lovely Hill Association; is a member of the Board of Directors for the Women's Auxiliary Convention and the Sunday School Convention, both at the Lovely Hill Association; a member of the Board of Trustees at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina; is an advisor to Ministerial Alliance, Lower Orangeburg County and to Ministerial Alliance, Upper Dorchester County; and is a member on the South Carolina Educational and Missionary Convention and the National Baptist Convention U.S.A., Inc.; and

Whereas, Dr. Marshall serves his civic community as past president of the Upper Dorchester County Branch NAACP and is a life member of that organization; Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Orangeburg County School District No. 3/Consolidated District No. 3; former chairman of the MATE Program Advisory Committee, Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina; former chairman of Eastern Orangeburg County Enterprise Community; former chairman of Francis J. Folk Recreation Park Committee; and is a member of the Advisory Committee Holnam Cement Plant, the South Carolina School Boards Association, the National School Boards Association; and the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; and

Whereas, he was married to the late Naomi Veronica Shuler Marshall. They are the parents of one daughter, Samuetta Valencia Marshall, who is currently serving as Orangeburg County Coroner; and

Whereas, this most capable and devoted public servant should be held up as an example of what hard work and determination can accomplish. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina State Senate congratulate and recognize the contributions of the Reverend Samuel Booker Marshall for his thirty years of service as a member of Orangeburg County Consolidated School District No. 3.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Samuel Booker Marshall.
