TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-5-72 SO AS TO ESTABLISH A UNIFORM START DATE FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF THE STATE THAT IS NOT EARLIER THAN THE LAST MONDAY IN AUGUST AND NOT LATER THAN THE WEDNESDAY AFTER LABOR DAY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 5, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-5-72. In establishing a start date for elementary and secondary schools of the State, the State Board of Education, the local school district, or another body designated to set the school start date shall establish a start date that is not earlier than the last Monday in August and not later than the Wednesday after Labor Day."
Section 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
