A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-19-91 SO AS TO ALLOW THE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO SET THE BEGINNING DATE FOR THEIR SCHOOLS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 1, Chapter 19, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-19-91.    Beginning with the 2003-2004 school year, a local school district of the State shall set the date that the schools in its district begin the school year."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
